Vintage Welsh Wool Blanket/Carthen in Vibrant Blue, Green, Yellow & Red With Liquorice Stripe

Lovely 1950s Welsh blanket/carthen in vibrant blue, red, green & yellow Herringbone double plaid check design with a darker liquorice stripe running through. Measures 86 inches x 77 inches. Good condition.

These Carmarthenshire double plaid blankets were made in 3 mills in the Gwili Valley. Sadly all now lost. These were the everyday utility blankets back in the days before duvets & they would have been sold, originally by horse & cart, all around the South Wales Valleys including The Rhondda & all the local Markets such as Cardigan, Carmarthen, Neath, Llanelli, Cardiff, Swansea, Pontypridd,  Pontypool, Newport & Abergavenny.

Can be purchased/viewed or collected in my shop in Abergavenny Market on a Tuesday or Saturday from 9 til 4 where I have a large collection of vintage & new blankets, coats,  capes,  purses & accessories
